My mood is always dark. Except for rare cases in the distant past, I have never had a jovial, sunny, serene mood. Strange, for someone who has drawn dozens and dozens of humorous cartoons, who constantly makes jokes and playful pranks on his sisters and friends. Does mood influence our writing? If that were the case, I wouldn't have to write a single line. From this point of view I can say I was lucky. There have been events in which it would have been normal to move away from the blog, but everything instead went unnoticed, because I manage to keep my writing and private life well separated. Wearing a mask helps you overcome dark moments, to move forward, when you would like to give up. It's a bit like what superheroes do: they wear a costume to make themselves unrecognizable and carry out a mission that they otherwise couldn't afford.
Does mood influence our stories? I wouldn't say so, in my case. It's true that many of the stories I wrote had a decidedly dramatic, raw, dark edge, where someone always died, but there were also lighter Special Data stories. No, so, stories just come to mind. The separation between creative writing and private life also exists in this case. Character: does it influence writing? Could be. Mine is a moody, asocial, introverted character. What should I write, then? Maybe it influences my characters though. You will never find a viveur or a politician as protagonists in my stories and, if you find them, you can be sure that they will come to a bad end. If you think about it, my characters all reflect some part of me. I don't think I would be able to write a story centered on a character totally distant from my personality, my values, my beliefs.
If I did, I wouldn't be credible and the protagonist would be flat, poorly characterised. So yes, our character influences our writing. At least in my case. I don't mean to say that each of our stories can be read as a kind of little autobiography. God forbid. I just said that my private life is separate from writing. But I believe it is true that our stories revolve around our philosophy of life. We write self-centered stories and there is nothing wrong with that. Live intensely in open spaces Physical and mental. Having an introverted character does not mean locking yourself in a reinforced concrete cell without windows. I daydream, I read everything I can read, I diversify my readings, I watch films, I go to the mountains, I travel whenever I can. My mind thus becomes a warehouse of information, which may be useful in some story.
